The Gary Sanchez legend is quickly building. By the time he hit two more home runs in the Yankees’ 11-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on September 21, he had gone deep 19 times since his August call-up, the quickest to that total any Major League player has ever achieved. To a large degree, Sanchez has kept the Yankees alive in the post-season chase, and could even win American League Rookie of the Year honors, regardless of how the Yankees’ season finishes.
McDonald’s Rewind and Archive: Having a huge weekend series in Toronto brings back memories of a particular series at the end of the 1985 season. Despite a furious September rally (sound familiar?), the Yankees had to witness the Blue Jays clinch its first-ever American League East title at the old Exhibition Stadium on the next-to-last day of the season. And on the last day, Phil Niekro and his knuckleball who had joined the team a year earlier, earned his 300th career victory on his way to Cooperstown.

Count the Yankees among the many groups that honored Maine-Endwell’s Little League World Series champions from the Binghamton after M-E’s magical run to the title in August in Williamsport, Pa. The M-E team was honored on the field at Yankee Stadium prior to a Yankees game early in September, and then, at a celebratory dinner held earlier this week, the guests included former Yankees great Graig Nettles, who joined the parade of those celebrating Upstate New York’s first Little League World Series title since the early 1960s.

The U.S. Army Weekly Recap

If the Yankees don’t make it to the post-season, the main culprit would be getting swept at Fenway Park by the Boston Red Sox, who came from behind to win three of those four games and got big home runs from Hanley Ramirez to take control in the AL East. Fortunately for New York, it got to go to St. Petersburg and, with wins over the Tampa Bay Rays, kept itself alive at least until a four-game wraparound series in Toronto where wins are a must before a final week of the regular season at home where it plays the Red Sox and Baltimore.
