Syracuse Orthopedic Surgeons Yankees Flashback 8/10/2019

While the passing of Thurman Munson 40 years ago is still remembered, so is the way the team responded. On the day of Munson’s funeral, the entire Yankees team flew to Canton, Ohio to attend, and two players – Bobby Murcer and Lou Piniella – spoke eulogies. Then, that night, back in the Bronx against the eventual AL champion Baltimore Orioles, Murcer, with his team down 4-0, hit a three-run home run and then won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-run double to take it 5-4, the highlight of an otherwise awful period.
